1. Passport requirements

More than 06 months validity from date of entry.

2. Visa / Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)

Required for almost all foreign nationals.

3. Process of applying

Apply online via ETA system at eta.gov.lk

4. Duration, Entries and Extensions permitted

30 days visa validity with possibility of extension up-to 06 months. (Double-entry by default)

5. Activities NOT permitted

Must not work or engage in business/trade.

6. Processing time & cost

Processing time: Usually between 2-4 business days.

Cost: Depends on nationality of the passport holder.

• Free of Charge Visa eligibility

  1. Up-to 30 days for nationals of China, India, Indonesia, Russia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan can enjoy the ETA free of cost, however still required to apply prior to arrival to Sri Lanka. Extension will be at the regular cost.

  2. Children of any nationality under the age of 12 years

• South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) Countries - USD 20 if applied prior to arrival & USD 25 if applied on arrival.

• All Other countries - USD 50 if applied prior to arrival & USD 60 if applied on arrival.

7. On arrival & at the border

Present your passport, the ETA approval/print-out, onward/return ticket or proof of onward travel, and accommodation proof (hotel bookings or host address) if required

Immigration may ask for proof of sufficient funds for your stay and return.

Overstaying your visa can lead to fines, detention, deportation or future travel bans
